The online application for the NSFAS fund is currently open, all eligible applicants need to submit all required documents to be eligible. Here are the required documents for NSFAS online application.

The application for the NSFAS fund opens on Tuesday, 2 November 2021 and it will end on Friday, 7 January 2022. It is compulsory for all applicants to create account to apply for NSFAS bursary, fill the application form and submit all the required documents on NSFAS website.

It is compulsory to input your correct details while applying for the NSFAS fund. Input your correct ID number, name(s), and surname as reflected in your SA ID documents for NSFAS to validate the ID upfront. The required documents for nsfas online application must also be in correct format.

You application details will be validated by NSFAS through the Department of Basic Education (DBE), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and others.

  • Certified copy of your ID: Upload both side of your ID card on the NSFAS website
  • Obtain and submit NSFAS consent form from the parent(s), guardian or spouse filled with your personal information for validation and verification.

If you’re dependant on your parents, guardian, or spouse, you must provide:
  • Certified copies of parent(s), guardian or spouse ID
  • Submit a proof of income of the parent(s), guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter, where applicable).
  • A certified copy of an official pension slip or bank statement showing pension payment if your parent or guardian are retired.
  • If a depended on your household is a students, provide a proof of regustration or acceptance into an highe institution for the individual.
If you are self-sufficient, you must provide:
  • Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter).
  • 1 year’s IRP5 form.

Note: No proof of income for SASSA recipient. Also, certified documents are not required due to COVID-19 restrictions.

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (if your information is not pre-populated on the application form). Download here
  • Submit a proof od disability and a quotation for assistive devices as a supporting documents toether with your nSFAS online application forrm. The funding for your assistive devices will follow the same approval as he financial aid.

All successful applicants in this category will be notified by NSFAS for financial aid approval and they can purchase their assistive device through their university or FET college disability unit.

Vulnerable students (child under 18 years), must provide:
  • A completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form must be completed by a social worker.

How to upload documents

Below is how to upload your NSFAS required documents

  1. On your browser go to my.nsfas.org.za.
  2. Log in using your NSFAS login details
  3. You will see the option to ‘upload outstanding supporting documents’
  4. Click on it to selct the right document and click on “Submit Documents.”
  5. After submission you will receive a notification saying, “Outstanding application documents submitted successfully uploaded.

Make sure you upload a clear certified copy of your documents on the NSFAS application page. If you could not get a clear copy, you can visit NSFAS or NYDA office for assistance.

I applied last year, and I was not approved for funding. Can I apply for 2022?

  • Definitely, you can reapply for NSFAS funding for 2022, if only you meet the funding criteria (irrespective of the fact that your application was not approved in 2021 or prior years).

My application for NSFAS funding was approved, but I did not register during the time I was approved for NSFAS. Do I have to reapply for 2022?

  • Yes. As soon as your NSFAS application gets approved, you have a year to register at a TVET college or university. Therefore, failure to register for a full year after your NSFAS funding application for the 2020 academic year was approved,  you will have to apply again.

I studied at a TVET college this year but want to proceed and study for a university qualification in 2022, do I need to apply?

  • Of course, yes.  You must have passed and completed your TVET qualification before you can be funded for an approved university qualification in 2022. Also, ensure your application is for a funded NSFAS funded course at the university.
