Below is detailed information about the UNIL Master’s Grants for foreign students.

All Master’s programmes offered by the UNIL, except the following
- Master from the School of Medicine
- Master of Education
- Master of Law*
- Master of criminal Law, magistracy specialism
- Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics
- Master of Science in Health sciences
- Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Management & Technology
- All MASs (PhD programmes)
Only those applying for the “international and comparative law” and “legal theory” can apply for this Master’s scholarship from the Master of Law.
Target group:
This scholarship is open to all international students.
Number of Scholarships:
The UNIL Grant will provide awards for up to 10 international students.
Scholarship value/duration:
This scholarship will last for the minimum duration of the programme chosen by the recipient. Recipients will receive a monthly fee of CHF 1,600 from 15 September to 15 July (or 10 months a year) till the end of the master’s programme (one and a half years or two years depending on the chosen master’s). There is an exception for cases of definitive failure after the first year.
With the exception of the CHF 80.00 in fees that must be paid each semester, students who are awarded scholarships are exempt from the fixed registration fees for the courses.
UNIL MASTER’S GRANTS Eligibility
There are some requirements students must meet to be eligible for the UNIL Master’s Grants. Below are the requirements:
- Prior to the start of the master’s program at UNIL, a foreign university degree is regarded as being comparable to a bachelor’s at UNIL.
- to have achieved academic distinction during your studies, particularly by exceptionally strong performance.
- should possess a B2 or higher level of French or English, depending on the language in which your chosen master is taught, on the European Language Portfolio global scale.
- Not to have been registered with UNIL in the past.
- the CHF 200.00 administration charge (see the document “list of documents to attach to your application”) has been paid.
Application instructions
Applicants are to send their complete application form with all the required documents, unbound, by post at the university’s address. You are not to make an admission application for the master’s degree through the Admissions Department (SII).

Closing Date
The closing date for applications is 1 November for the master’s degree during the next academic year, in the autumn semester or the spring semester if the programme allows. The postmark will attest to the date sent.
