South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) Foundation is the association of food science, technology and other professionals serving South Africa’s food and allied industries.

The aim of the organization is to increase knowledge of food science and technology through research, membership magazine publication, workshops, exhibitions, meetings, seminars and assisting in educational activities.

SAAFoST is a non-profit organization and is run by volunteers with around 2000 members across Southern Africa. It also has a foundation that is responsible for the administration of SAAFoST academic bursaries, awards and prizes.

SAAFOST AUBREY PARSONS STUDY GRANT FIELDS COVERED

The SAAFoST Foundation is calling on all eligible students to apply for the Aubrey Parsons Study Grant 2022 academic year.

This grant is available for students in Food Science and Food Technology Fields (BSc Hons or B-Tech). The grant will provide funding for these departments, at the following institutions:

  • Departments of Food Science at University of Stellenbosch, University of Pretoria, University of Venda and University of the Free State
  • Departments of Food Technology a the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology and University of Johannesburg

SAAFOST AUBREY PARSONS STUDY GRANT COVERAGE VALUE

This bursary will provide a sum of R20 000 for each recipient regardless of how long the study will take. Recipients will be selected based on academic performance.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Below are the eligibility requirements for the SAAFoST Aubrey Parsons Study Grant. All applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • It is open to those that have been a member of SAAFoST for a minimum of 1 year
  • You must be studying full-time, within one of the above departments, at one of the above institutions
  • You must be studying towards a BSc (Hons) qualification for those at a University and BTech qualification if studying at a University of Technology
  • Have a strong academic record
  • Maintained a minimum overall average of 70% in previous academic years

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SAAFOST AUBREY PARSONS STUDY GRANT

The application for this grant must be done by the approved tertiary institution only, students cannot apply for the bursary themselves.

The Head of the accredited department must nominate or recommend candidates who are worthy of the award based on academic excellence and financial need. Only one candidate will be nominated from each institution.

Note: The bursary is not transferrable or shared.

  • Proof of SAAFoST membership
  • Proof of registration at one of the approved institutions, for full-time studies
  • Nominees’ complete academic record of all previous years

The application for the SAAFoST Aubrey Parsons Study Grant will close on 18 April 2022. Failure to submit all the required documents will get your application disqualified.
