The Compensation Fund is a part of the South Africa Department of labour that provides compensation to injured workers, disabled workers while working or diseases while discharging their duties.

They are responsible for the payment of permanent, casual and apprentices and trainees that get injured or contract diseases while discharging their duties.

COMPENSATION FUND BURSARY FIELDS COVERED

The Compensation Fund Bursary is calling on all interested candidates to apply for the Social Welfare and Vocational Rehabilitation Bursary Scheme for the next academic year.

This bursary is for two groups of people in the following field below. The two groups are also explained below:

Group 1: This fund is for unemployed candidates that got permanently disabled while discharging their duties, and COID pensioners. Those in this group can apply for studies in the following fields:

  • Carpentry
  • Dressmaking

  • Horticulture & Landscaping
  • Upholstery and Furniture Making
  • Welding
  • Plumbing
  • Poultry Farming
  • Traditional & Hydroponic Vegetable Cultivation and Agro-processing
  • Other Vocational Training

Group 2: This is for the dependant of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) or dependants of COID that are permanently disabled after injuries or diseases sustained at work. They can apply for the following courses:

COVERAGE VALUE, RENEWABILITY & SELECTION

The Compensation Fund Bursary will cater for the following student’s expenses: Accommodation, Study Materials, Tuition fees and students will be entitled to a monthly stipend.

The bursary is just for a year but recipients can renew the bursary throughout their qualification years if they meet the requirements to renew it.

Successful applicants will be contacted by the Compensation Fund Bursary management, if you did not receive any message two months from the closing date your application is not successful.

COMPENSATION FUND BURSARY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

There are selection requirements used for the Compensation Fund Bursary to choose successful candidates. The eligibility requirements depend on the Group, see each group eligibility requirements below:

1) Group 1:

  • A South African citizen
  • Must be unemployed
  • Working-age
  • Applicants must have sustained a permanent injury or diseases
  • Must be ready to study full-time if not disabled or part-time if disabled in any of the above fields of study.
  • Admitted or preliminary accepted to study at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College, Community Education and Training (CET) or Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Ready to improve your skills to return to the workforce or become self-employed

2) Group 2:

  • Open to all South African citizen
  • Age 17 and 25 years old
  • Dependant of a COID pension or dependants of COID people who are permanently disabled after suffering occupational injuries or diseases
  • Must be ready to study full-time if not disabled or part-time if disabled in any of the above fields of study.
  • Admitted or preliminary accepted to study at a Public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College or Higher Education Institution (HEI)

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for the Compensation Fund Bursary you will have to download and complete the Compensation Fund Bursary Application Form 2022 (.pdf)

After filling the form you will have to attach a clear certified copy of the required documents for the bursary board to consider you for the bursary. It is compulsory to submit all required documents before the closing date, below are the documents:

1) Group 1:

  • ID document
  • COID pension number or COID claim number
  • Latest academic transcript if studying
  • Evidence of admission or preliminary acceptance from an approved South African institute
  • Tuition fees quotation on institutions letterhead
  • Prescribed Learning Resources quotation on institutions letterhead if available
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of disability, if applicable (verification by a Health Care Professional or Disability Support Office)

2) Group 2:

  • ID document
  • Applicants unabridged birth certificate
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents/ death certificates if deceased
  • COID pension number or COID claim number
  • Matric June results if in Matric
  • Latest academic transcript, if currently studying
  • Proof of acceptance or preliminary acceptance from an approved institution
  • Tuition fees quotation on institutions letterhead
  • Prescribed Learning Resources quotation on institutions letterhead
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of disability verified by a Health Care Professional or Disability Support Office
  • Pre-entry assessment for those applying for the apprenticeship programme
  • Proof of income (latest payslip if employed: certified copy, affidavit if unemployed or an informal worker, proof of SASSA grant if applicable, a proof pension if applicable, or other proof of income)

CLOSING DATE

The closing date for the Compensation Fund Bursary are as follows

Phase 1: 30 November 2021.
Phase 2: 29 January 2022.
