TIGP Fully-Funded PhD Programs

The application for the TIGP Fully-Funded PhD Programs for International Students is now open in Taiwan to study for the 2022/2023 session. Apply for the scholarship program in Academia Sinica, Taiwan.

The Taiwan International Graduate Program was started in 2002 and it is a PhD program by Academia Sinica, the foremost research institution in Taiwan. Academia offers advanced inter-disciplinary PhD programs with the cooperation of the top universities in Taiwan. Successful applicants of this scholarship will have access to a stipend levy of about US$ 12,720 annually. Students that have good academic records will be given support for two more years of support. Successful applicants will be given NTD $34,000 which is about $1,100 US Dollars for the first year. The PhD program runs in nine fields which span around natural and physical sciences, as well as computational linguistics.

TIGP students will be learning in English throughout their program of study and research environment and will also have the opportunity to explore the world-class faculty and state-of-the-art research facilities put in place by Academia Sinica and partner universities.

PhD Programs Offered By TIGP

All international students can apply to one of the following 12 PhD programs offered by TIGP. They include:

  • Molecular and Cell Biology
  • Nano Science and Technology
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Earth System Science
  • Biodiversity
  • Interdisciplinary Neuroscience
  • Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology
  • Social Networks and Human-Centered Computing

Eligibility For TIGP Scholarship

Here are the criteria international students must meet to be considered for this program:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and/or a Master’s degree by the time they apply for admission to the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP).
  • Applicants must meet the university admission requirements.
  • Students that are from countries that do not speak English are expected to read, write, comprehend, and speak English to be admitted for graduate study. Applicants whose first or native language is not English are to take a test of English proficiency as part of the application procedure. Please note that test scores submitted must be taken nothing higher than two years. The test score(s) must be sent to the TIGP Admissions Office before the university registration day. The English proficiency requirement for admission varies from one program to the other. One of the following language test scores must be provided for the application.

(1) TOEFL: A total score of 79 on the internet-based test or 550 for the paper-based test is the minimum admission requirement for all programs. Please note that institutional TOEFL nor TOEFL-ITP will be accepted for admission; only ETS International TOEFL (iBT or PBT) will be considered.

(2) IELTS: A minimum overall Band Score of 5.5 on the Academic Test of International English Language Testing           System (IELTS). The minimum IELTS requirement for Bioinformatics Program is 6.0.

(3) GEPT: As in addition to TOEFL and IELTS, applicants in Taiwan can take the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), which is administered by the Language Training and Testing Center. Under this option, it is a must for applicants to submit their high intermediate level certificate with their application.

The application must include:

  • Applicants should submit an academic transcript and Course content information Formal transcripts from all enrolled colleges or universities to the TIGP Admissions Office.
  • Only applications form that have been submitted (to the International Office and registered on the scholarship website) before February 1, 2023, will be considered.
