Application is now open for students that want to apply for the Sanlam Bursary South Africa. The application procedure and other information will be provided below.

The Sanlam Bursary is calling on all eligible South African students to apply for the ongoing bursary for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Sanlam was established in 1918 as a life insurance company which later evolved into a diversified financial services business with local and international footprints. Sanlam provides both individuals and international clients with financial solutions across all market segments through its business cluster which are  Sanlam Corporate; Sanlam Personal Finance; Sanlam Investments; Sanlam Emerging Markets; and Santam.

Sanlam presently has around 18 000 employment capacity, serves over 10 million customers, and is listed on both the JSE and the NSE (Namibian Stock Exchange).

The company has operations across Africa (Swaziland, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, and Rwanda), as well as the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and India, with additional business interests in Australia, the United States, and the Philippines.

ABOUT THE SANLAM BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Sanlam bursary is available for students that are studying towards an Actuarial Science qualification, and available for current students and matriculants.

The application is currently open for the 2023 academic session and the application is out already.

SANLAM BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED

Tuition costs, actuarial board examinations, housing, book allowance, travel allowance, and pocket money will all be covered by the bursary.

Bursary recipients also have access to:

  • Continuous support and payment towards actuarial board exams
  • Vacation work and networking opportunities with Sanlam staff
  • Mentoring and academic support from actuarial professionals at Sanlam
  • Employment after graduation
  • Many rotation opportunities across a broad spectrum of disciplines

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SANLAM BURSARY

To apply successfully for the Sanlam bursary, applicants must meet some requirements outlined below by the bursary board. It is compulsory for applicants to meet all the requirements applicable to them.

  • Open to all South African citizens or a non-South African citizen
  • You must be presently enrolled in Matric and want to pursue an Actuarial Science degree full-time in 2023 OR you must be pursuing an Actuarial Science degree full-time in 2023. (in your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study)
  • Current undergraduate students must demonstrate good academic ability and a will to succeed
  • You must have a minimum score of 90% in Mathematics and an overall average of A symbol if you are a current Matric student (final Matric results may be used as determining factor)
  • You must have strong math skills, be able to solve tough problems and be committed to remaining focused and disciplined throughout your studies and training.
  • On the basis of merit, candidates from the specified groups (African, Coloured, and Indian South Africans), as well as non-South African nationals, would be given preference.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SANLAM BURSARY

The application for the bursary is done online at the Sanlam Bursary Application 2023.

The online application is the only acceptable form of application for the bursary.

Together with the online application, you are to upload copies of your certified original documents required by the bursary. It is compulsory to upload all required documents for your application to be accepted.

Current undergraduate students:

Current  undergraduate students are provided with the following documents:

  • Full academic transcripts on the institution’s letterhead
  • Proof of registration and/or Fee Statement the on institutions letterhead
  • Matric certificate
  • ID document, passport or valid study visa
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, with a focus on academics, extra-mural activities and leadership skills
  • Letter of motivation in support of your application (together with responses to the following five questions: describe what an actuary does, why you want to study actuarial science, why you think you can become an actuary, why Sanlam should offer you a bursary, and what you plan to do if you don’t become an actuary)

Current Matric students:

Students in Matric are to provide the followings:

  • 2021 Grade 11 final results
  • 2022 Matric mid-year results
  • NBT results
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, with a focus on academics, extra-mural activities and leadership skills
  • Support your application with a motivational letter (includes responses to the following five questions: describe what an actuary does, why you want to study actuarial science, why you think you can become an actuary, why Sanlam should offer you a bursary, and what you want to do if you don’t become an actuary)

CLOSING DATE FOR THE SANLAM BURSARY

The closing date for the Sanlam Bursary is 31 July 2022. Any application submitted later will not be accepted and considered for the bursary.
