NRF-DAAD In-Country Scholarships in South Africa

The DAAD and the NRF jointly offer the NRF-DAAD In-Country Scholarship to full-time Master’s and PhD students in South Africa covering all subject areas at any university in the country.

Any prospective South African student may submit an application to be considered for this scholarship. To apply, candidates must be 30 years old for master’s programs or 32 years old for PhD programs.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is a national organization that represents all 365 of Germany’s higher education institutions. It is funded by the state and the federal governments; privately operated and independent. Furthermore, the international DAAD network also consists of over 50 information centers and more than 450 DAAD lecturer postings. One of the most prominent scholarships that Germany, a country in Europe, gives to outstanding international students is the DAAD Scholarship.

-To apply, candidates must be 30 years old for master’s programs or 32 years old for PhD programs. For postgraduate funding, the NRF minimum academic standard is 65%.
-To be considered for the scholarship, one must be a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa.
