Application is now open for students that do not pass the Matric Examination to apply for DBE Second Chance Programme.

The DBE Matric Second Chance aim is to help students that do not pass the NSC Matric examination. The programme will provide support for learners that fails the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC).

This is a Matric support programme for those that fail Matric or want to upgrade their Matric result. It is also open to those that are older than 21 years and pass Grade 9.

CANDIDATES TO BE SUPPORTED

below are the candidates that can apply for the Second Chance Programme:

  • Senior Certificate Examination Candidates: Learners registered to write the Senior Certificate examinations in June.
  • NSC Examinations Part-time candidates: Learners who attempted the NSC examinations post 2015 and will write the examinations in November.
  • Learners that fail Matric
  • Those that want to improve their matric result after an attempt
  • Those who are 21 years old or above, passed Grade 9 and would like to obtain their Matric certificate. Those in this category can register with their Grade 9, 10 or 11 results and their Identity Document (ID) while the rest will need a copy of their ID and Matric Certificate or statement of results.

How to register for DBE Second Chance Programme

To apply for the DBE Second Chance Programme, compile all the required documents (ID and Matric result or Grade 9, 10 or 11 for those that have). After that, visit your local district office or apply online using the Second Chance Programme website.

Once you have registered and accepted into the programme, you will receive support from the Department of Basic Education. The support you will receive from DBE will include online learning material, printed study material, television broadcasted programmes and old Grade 12 question papers.

DBE made face-to-face classes available at selected locations to help students that want to enrol for the Second Chance Programme.
