The Ashinaga Africa Initiative was established by Yoshiomo Tamai after the loss of his mother in a traffic accident. This initiative provides financial and emotional care for youths that have lost one or both of their parents across all over the world.
The organization has provided support to the education of around 110,000 orphaned students across the world. Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme has helped so many undergraduates to continue their education abroad since its establishment.
FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE
To benefit from the Ashinaga Africa Initiative Leadership programme, applicants must be completing high school and have lost 1 or both parents. This funding is open to all students from most African countries.
Applicants must have an excellent academic record to apply for funding towards their education abroad in any field of study of their choice. The beneficiary must be ready to come back to sub-Saharan Africa to implement change innovation and help in the development of the continent.
Ashinaga Africa Initiative together with the beneficiary will determine the country of study depending on academic grade language and visa requirements, and the available course of study.
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative will provide for the following student’s needs toward their education: accommodation, travel expenses, tuition and other necessary expenses.
ASHINAGA AFRICA INITIATIVE LEADERSHIP ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES
The following are the eligible countries that can apply for the AAI leadership programme: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, CAR, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, DRC, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Kenya, Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AAI LEADERSHIP
Students that want to benefit from the Ashinaga Africa Initiative Leadership programme must meet the following requirements to be eligible:
- Applicant date of birth must be after 1 September 1999
- Must have lost 1 or both of your parents
- Applicants with no dependents that may interfere with their studies
- You must be in good health (to be able to study abroad)
- Applicant must have completed secondary school OR you must be currently in secondary school
- Must have received their national secondary school exam results within the last 2 years OR you must receive your final exam results by 28 February 2022 (NOT technical and vocational degrees)
- Willing to study abroad, towards an undergraduate university qualification
- Applicants must lack financial support to study abroad or be a beneficiary of external funding.
- Fluent in English, French or Portuguese
- You must be in the top 10% of your class during the last 2 to 3 years of secondary school
- Ready to partake in 2 Ashinaga preparatory programs, before attending university (programs will take place in 1 year)
- Ready to return to your home country or to Sub-Saharan Africa within 4 years after graduation, where you will contribute to the development of the society in Sub-Saharan Africa

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE AAI LEADERSHIP
To apply for the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) Leadership Programme follow the steps below:
You are to apply first online at AAI Leadership Application 2022 after you have registered an account here.
If you are from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe (Portuguese-speaking), kindly use this link for your application:

After you have registered an account, you will receive an email from Ashinaga together will the application form for the programme within one month of registration. If you did not receive an email, you are not eligible to apply for the leadership programme. Make sure you check your spam mail frequently.
All interested applicants are advised to download and read the AAI Applicants Guidebook to put them through on the application and get access to other information.
If you receive mail from the Ashinaga Africa Initiative Leadership programme, an application form will come with it. Fill the form completely and attach the following supporting documents with the application form. Make sure you submit all documents certified copy to be eligible for the programme.
- ID document, Passport or Birth certificate
- Passport photograph
- Submit all term academic reports or secondary school transcripts from the past 2 years
- Final secondary school certificate that contains results for each subject
- A recommendation letter from a school teacher or principal indicating your performance and character at secondary school. The letter should contain their contact number, email address and must be stamped or signed.
- Academic transcripts or official university results for undergraduates
- Certificates of extracurricular activities, training courses, jobs or other commitments if available
- Death certificate of deceased parent/parents or another official documentation to prove parents death or orphan status
CLOSING DATE FOR THE AAI LEADERSHIP
The closing date for the programme is 15 October for students from Lusophone Africa countries: Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Mozambique.
The closing date for students from other countries is 28 January 2022. Late application will not be accepted by the leadership programme
