South32 Hmm Community Bursary

South32 Hmm Community Bursary is funded by South32; a mining and metals company with operations in South Africa, Australia, The United States of America, Mozambique, and Columbia. A wide range of products such as Aluminium, Alumina, Silver, Lead, Zinc, metallurgical coal, manganese, and thermal coal; South32 is committed to the development of its host communities in the areas it operates.

One of the key focus areas South32 aims to contribute to enabling their host communities to access employment opportunities or start their own small businesses; is with skills development.

Coupled with the South32 bursary scheme targeted at STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths), a new bursary scheme for non-STEM subjects for communities, is introduced.  The South32 Hmm Community Bursary is aimed at increasing the skills in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District to be used beyond the mining sector and contribute to the diversification of the local economy.

Successful candidates will be sponsored to study and obtain qualifications of their choice.

The bursary is available to students in any field of study:

  • Degree
  • Diploma
  • National certificate

SOUTH32 HMM COMMUNITY BURSARY APPLICATION COVERAGE

The South32 Hmm Community Bursary will cover fully the cost of the following expenses:
  •  Full payment of tuition fees
  •  Payment of meals and accommodation
  • Book allowance

SOUTH32 HMM COMMUNITY BURSARY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must have good academic records.
  • Applicants must be studying or must be registered to study in an accredited or reputable South Africa tertiary institution.
  • Local Community members residing in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipal area.
  • Applicants, who want to study or already studying post matric. Well, this is your opportunity as a valued member of Hotazel Manganese Mines’ local community to obtain a bursary and realize your future dreams.
  • Students currently studying for a Degree/Diploma in any discipline and in any year of study at a registered tertiary institution (Higher Education and Training Institution).

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR SOUTH32 HMM COMMUNITY BURSARY

Students after meeting the eligibility requirements may apply by submitting clear copies of the following supporting documentation:

  •  Valid South African ID
  • Copy of the Matric certificate
  • Academic record/results (if applicable)
  •  Brief CV
  • Proof of Registration of HET
  • Proof of residence (copy of municipal water & lights, or a letter from a Council member or Chief), confirming that you are a resident of the JTG District.

South32 Hmm Community Bursary

SOUTH32 HMM COMMUNITY BURSARY SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Previous year’s academic results, if doing the first year at HET, the 2020 final matric results.
  •  Students must currently be enrolled at a HET studying toward a Diploma or Degree.
  • In making the final selection, consideration will be given to attaining the objectives of the Mining Charter and Employment Equity Act.

BURSARY TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions must be taken into consideration and carefully noted:

  •  Bursar must pass studies.
  •  HMM has no obligation to provide vacation work although it will be considered if necessary for the student to obtain his/her
    qualification.
  • The bursary does not guarantee employment with HMM upon the completion of your studies.

Applications close on 30th December 2021.
