The management of the South Africa Reserve Bank Bursary is calling on all eligible South African to apply for the ongoing bursary. The bursary aim is to fill the gap of the shortage of skills in South Africa

Purpose of the bursary scheme
In addressing the severe shortage of skills in South Africa, The South Africa Reserve Bank (The Bank), grants bursaries to students in relevant fields of study who are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A number of external bursaries are made available annually in support of the corporate social initiatives of the Bank and the Banks External Bursary Scheme (the scheme), to needy qualifying Grade 12 pupils (external bursars) to kick off on full-time studies.
Studies for which bursaries will be granted
Intended studies to be pursued by students will have a bearing on but are not limited to, the activities and functions of the Bank. (For more enquiries on the Bank, visit the Banks website: www.resbank.co.za). For example, this includes: Law and Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Technology, Actuarial Sciences, Mathematical Statistics, included also are: Dentistry, Medicine and Social Work.
A bursary from the first academic year will be granted and reviewed annually. Bursary Reapplication each year isn’t needed by Bursary holders. Annual reviews of the total number of students and related bursary costs will be carried out.
Students who are Bank bursary holders will be provided vacation work opportunities; fully funded by the Bank.
Criteria for awarding bursaries
Over and above the criteria set out in paragraphs 1 to 3 above, the following guidelines will be used in the awarding of bursaries:
- Citizens of South Africa only will be awarded.
- Students with the low financial capacity of attending University only will be considered.
- Qualifying bursary applicants who obtained an average of at least 70% in the June Matric/Grade 12 examinations, with final awarding subject to final results and enrolment acceptance at a University in South Africa; will be awarded bursaries.
How to apply
Submission of applications shall be due (closing date) on 30th September of each year.
Submitted with the application form are
- Examination results.
- Proof of acceptance at a recognized institution (student number).

Submission of examination results by bursary holders
Regardless if Bursary holders will be awarded a bursary for the following year or not, they will be required to submit their examination results before 31st December of each year.
Eligibility for further funding of existing bursars will be determined by the successful completion of the academic year.
Bursary Agreement
Required of potential external bursars, is to make themselves available for an interview. Successful bursary applicant(s) will be expected to sign an agreement with the Bank.
