Application is now open for South African students to apply for the Maize Trust Bursary. Below are the details you need to know about the bursary and how to apply successfully.

The management of Maize Trust Bursary is calling on all eligible candidates to apply for the ongoing bursary. The Maize Trust was established in 1998 after the maize board closed with the goal to promote the South African Maize industry.

Maize Trust provides financial support to organizations and institutions that are into the market and production-related search programs. They contribute to the increment of market access to the maize industry.

Eligible Field of Study

The bursary program is for students that are in the field related to the Agricultural sector and in the South African maize industry. The bursary will be awarded in the following Masters and Doctoral studies alone:

  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agricultural Meteorology
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Agronomy
  • Plant Breeding
  • Plant Physiology
  • Plant Biochemistry
  • Plant Pathology
  • Plant Entomology
  • Plant Nematology
  • Pasture Science
  • Food Sciences (relevant to the crop industry)
  • Livestock Science
  • Weed Science
  • Soil Science
  • Soil Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Biometry

Eligible Country

This bursary programme is for South African students to study in any South African university. If you are an international student, you can check other scholarships available.

Bursary Benefits

Recipients of the Maize Trust Bursary are entitled to R78 334 per annum for MSc students (for 2 years) and  R94 817 per annum for both PhD students (for 3 years ).

The fund awarded is to cater for tuition fees, textbooks, living expenses and other study materials. After graduation, recipients must work in the South African Maize industry.

MAIZE TRUST BURSARY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Below are the eligibility requirements for students that want to apply for the Maize Trust Bursary, failure to meet the below requirement will make your application ineligible. Below are the requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying full time within one of the above fields of study, MSc or PhD alone.
  • Studying at a South African University.
  • Intend on conducting a thesis on a topic that has been approved by the Maize Trust
  • Ready to work in the South African maize industry after graduation
  • Agree to all terms and conditions.

To apply for this bursary, download and fill the Maize Trust Bursary Form (pdf). After completing the application form, you are to attach clear copies of all the supporting documents with your application form.

It is compulsory to submit all the required documents to be considered for the bursary:

  • Matric certificate
  • Other qualification certificates
  • Full tertiary academic record
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Summary/ short description of your intended thesis

MAIZE TRUST BURSARY CLOSING DATE

The closing date for the Maize Trust Bursary is 31 January yearly. Any application submitted later will not be considered for the bursary.
