Application is now open for all students that want to apply for the LegalWise Bursary 2022. The application process, eligibility, requirements and closing date are below.
The management of the LegalWise bursary is calling on all eligible South African students to apply for the 2022 bursary programme. LegalWise was founded in 1984 by Zak Crafford a former Legal Aid employee.
LegalWise aims are to provide affordable, qual and fair access to justice and legal assistance for South Africans. The law firm provides help for criminal cases, civil and labour related cases and help in human rights cases.
There are three membership options offered by LegalWise; Gold, GoldPlus and Platinum. Each of the membership plans provides maximum coverage for legal cases. The company boost of 500 to 1000 staff across its 80 branches.

FIELDS COVERED
LegalWise is going to award a bursary to students in the following field:
- LLB
- BA Law
- BCOM Law
- BCOM Accounting
- BCOM Human Resource Management
- BCOM Management
- BCOM Industrial Psychology
COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT
The LegalWise award is a partial bursary that will be available for students in their 2nd year of study onwards, and cover the cost of tuition and registration fees (depending on the bursary budget) to a maximum value of R40 000.
Recipients of this bursary will have to take part in vacation work with LegalWise for 5 weeks every year, this will be during June and December holidays. After graduation, the recipient will have to complete an in-service obligation. The in-service is 6 months of paid service for each year the recipient receive the bursary.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at the nearest LegalWise Branch.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Below are the requirements each applicant of the LegalWise bursary must meet before they can be eligible to apply for this bursary. Failure to meet all the requirements which make your application ineligible:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying full-time towards one of the aforementioned degree qualifications (part-time and 1st-year students will NOT be funded)
- Have a minimum overall average of 60% “C” symbol for the previous year of study at the tertiary level
- Fluent in English and at least 1 other South African official language (able to speak, read and write)
- A LegalWise member or have a parent that is a LegalWise member
- The LegalWise Member must be fully paid up for a minimum of 2 years before application and must remain a Member for the entire duration of the bursary
- Possess the following qualities: a positive attitude, determination, commitment, able to work in a team, show initiative, good communication skills and good interpersonal skills

- North-West University (Mafikeng/ Potchefstroom campus)

After downloading the application form, fill it completely and attach a clear certified copy of the following documents to it. It is compulsory for all applicants to attach all the documents below:
- ID document
- Matric certificate
- Tertiary academic transcript
- First semester tertiary exam results
- Latest tertiary account statement
- Proof of university registration
- Applicants Parents/ guardians ID documents
- Parent/ guardian/ spouse proof of income (payslip/ letter from employer if employed/ proof of SASSA grant if applicable/ sworn affidavit if unemployed/ latest financial statements if self-employed)
- Proof that you are a LegalWise Member/ the child of a LegalWise Member/ a legal guardian of a LegalWise Member
- Letter of recommendation from a parent/ guardian/ friend
- A motivation/essay giving details about yourself and why you should be selected as a LegalWise Bursary Holder.

The closing date for the LegalWise Bursary is 30 September, any application submitted later will not be considered for the bursary.
