France-South Africa Scholarship 2024

The French Embassy in South Africa invites students from South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi to participate in the prestigious France-South Africa Scholarship Programme. This annual opportunity allows students to pursue their Master’s or Ph.D. studies at renowned universities and higher education institutions in France. The program encompasses all fields of study, aiming to foster academic excellence and strengthen bilateral relationships between France and South Africa.

Benefits of the France-South Africa Scholarship:

Selected participants under the full scholarship scheme will enjoy a range of enticing benefits, including:

  1. France Excellence scholarship holder status, providing priority for student housing, exemption from visa fees, social security coverage, and support from Campus France Paris.
  2. A round-trip flight ticket to France.
  3. A monthly allowance of approximately 850 euros for Master’s students and 1400 euros for PhD students.
  4. Potential additional individualized accommodation aid (around 150 euros/month) from the French Government.
  5. Alternatively, a cost-sharing scholarship scheme is available where the monthly allowance is partially or fully covered by a partner, while still retaining all other full scholarship benefits.

Eligibility for the France-South Africa Scholarship:

To be eligible for this esteemed program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Born on or after January 1st, 1994.
  2. Citizens of South Africa, Lesotho, or Malawi.
  3. Enrolled in a French higher education institution for a Master’s or PhD degree.

The duration of the scholarship aligns with the time required to complete the respective degrees.

Application Procedure:

Applicants are required to submit their applications online, along with the following documents:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Copy of a valid passport.
  3. Updated résumé outlining the applicant’s academic history.
  4. Cover letter expressing motivations and interests in the planned academic project.
  5. Copies of academic degree certificates (Bachelor’s or Master’s only).
  6. University transcripts for at least two years of studies.

Application Dates:

The annual call for applications will open on May 25, 2023, for students intending to commence their studies in France in September 2024. Following the application submission, all applicants must finalize their enrollment in their chosen study program. Additionally, attending intensive online French courses provided from February 2024 to June 2024 is mandatory.
