The BBD Bursary is for students that want to study and pursue a career in the software development field. The bursary will consider financial need and academic merit of applicants during the selection of the correct candidate.
In 1984, three developers; Tom Budge, Sandra Barone and Ralf Dominick formed BBD. The company provide services in systems integration, user experience design, mobile app services, IT & development consulting, software development, and maintenance and support.
BBD has a research and development team that provides guidance, update and insight on the latest technology tools, framework and trends. It has been a leading software development and application design company for more than 30 years now. BBD work for insurance firms, telecommunication companies, banks and government institute. Some of the firm to clients are Old Mutual, Alexander Forbes, Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank, African Bank, Discovery, Momentum, MultiChoice, Vodacom and Liberty.
The company has 700 staff members in the following fields; application design, software engineer, system architect, tech-trend enthusiasts and digital strategist. It has its headquarter in Johannesburg and other offices are in Pretoria, Cape Town, Bulgaria and India.
BBD BURSARY FIELDS COVERED
The bursary is going to select candidates in the following IT-related degrees (BCom/ BEng/ BIS/ BSc, at Bachelors/ Honours/ Masters/ Doctorate level):
- Computer and Software Engineering
- Computer Science
- Informatics
- Information Technology
COVERAGE & OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
The bursary is going to take care of students university tuition fees and provide a monthly allowance for living expenses and incidentals.
Also, recipients will receive mentorship and exposure to project work. After graduation, recipients will take up permanent employment at BBD.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The beneficiary of this scholarship will be selected based on the following criteria ( applicants must meet all the requirements)
- Must be a South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying or intend on studying an IT degree qualification in one of the above fields of study (Bachelors, Honours, Masters or Doctorate)
- Studying or intend on studying at a recognised University in South Africa
- Must achieve a minimum overall average of 70%
- Passionate about creating and building software
- Good written and verbal communication skill

CLOSING DATE
The closing date for the bursary is 5th of November 2020. Any application submitted after the closing date will not be eligible for consideration.
