The management of the Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship Bursary is calling on all eligible students of South Africa to apply for ongoing funding opportunities. We will provide you with all the information you need for a successful application here.

Allen Gray Orbit Foundation was founded in 2005 by Allah Gray to fulfil his dream of creating a contribution to the country, by helping students to become the future entrepreneurs in Southern Africa.

Allah Gray Limited’s taxed profits are responsible for the funding of the Allen Gray Orbit Foundation. The Allen Gray Orbit Foundation is currently operating in 4 African countries; South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland and Botswana.

The aim of the foundation is to provide funds for students to study at the university level. They also provide support and development for students that have entrepreneurial mindsets.

ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP FIELDS COVERED

The application for students to apply for Allen Gray Orbit Foundation Bursary is available for Matric students for undergraduate studies in the following field of study:

  • Arts
  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Humanities
  • Law
  • Science (excluding Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science)

Note: The applications for 1st-year students have closed already and will reopen later in the year.

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation helps students to cultivate entrepreneurship in Fellows and also creates entrepreneurship opportunities through the programme.

All successful candidates will be boarded as Allan Gray Fellow. This award will b given to 100 students every year.

ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Bursary will take care of the following student expenses: prescribed books, tuition fees, meals, university residence, tutor allowance and monthly stipends.

Students with a household income of R1 million will receive full funding while students that have more than R1 million household income will receive funding based on their needs.

Recipients will also receive support for personal development like mentorship, industry mentor and like-minded community); access to entrepreneurial mindset development like workshops, speakers and seminars, access to business incubation and experiential exercises.

ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – SELECTION PROCESS

Below is the selection criteria for the bursary:

Matric students:

Step 1: Applicants must submit their application by 29 April 2022 at 17:00.

Step 2: shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview in July 2022.

Step 3: shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a Selection Camp in September 2022.

All applicants will be updated after every selection process.

1st-year students:
applications are currently closed.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS

Before students can be considered for this bursary, applicants will have to meet some requirements to be eligible. Below are the eligibility requirements for the bursary:

Matric students:

  • Applicants must be a South African citizen
  • Applicants must not be older than 21 years old in 2022
  • You must be currently in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics or a minimum result of 80% for Mathematical Literacy in Grade 11 final results
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% for Grade 11 final results (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Applicants intending on studying towards a degree qualification within any of the fields of study listed above
  • Applicants that intend on studying at one of the following partner universities: the University of Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch University, Rhodes University, Nelson Mandela University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of the Free State
  • You must believe in the future of South Africa
  • You must have strong entrepreneurial flair and passion

1st-year students:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Applicants must be under 22 years of age in 2022
  • You must be studying towards a degree qualification within one of the fields of study above
  • You must be in your 1st year of study. Students in other years of study will not be funded
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your June 2021 exams
  • You must be studying at one of the following partner universities: University of Johannesburg/ University of the Witwatersrand/ University of Pretoria/ University of Cape Town/ University of the Western Cape/ Stellenbosch University/ Rhodes University/ Nelson Mandela University/ University of KwaZulu-Natal/ University of the Free State/ TSIBA
  • You must believe in the future of South Africa
  • You must have a strong entrepreneurial flair and passion
  • Parent(s) / Legal guardian(s) signature should the applicant be under the age of 18

Applicants with the following qualities will be considered:

  • Leadership role at school or university (including being a prefect/ sports team captain/ member of the SRC)
  • Formal awards at school or university (including Academic/ Cultural/ Service awards)
  • Participation in any sporting or cultural activities at school, university or outside this environment
  • Started an activity or project that has left a positive impact in your school, university, community or environment
  • An occasion where you have achieved success despite the difficulty
  • Demonstration of tenacity, perseverance and goal-oriented behaviour
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change
  • Ability to manage your emotions, as well as be aware of the emotions of people around you and react appropriately
