The management of Epilepsy South Africa Education Trust is calling on all eligible South African to apply for their bursary programme. Epilepsy South Africa Educational Trust was founded in December 1998.
The aim of the trust is to provide financial support for talented South African students with epilepsy in tertiary institutions. This bursary will only provide the recipient with part funding but will provide support for them for nearly two decades.
The bursary is only valid for one year but students can reapply for the bursary if they meet requirements.
Epilepsy South Africa Education Trust Bursary Criteria
Below are the eligibility criteria for the bursary:
- Students with epilepsy in South Africa
- Trust bursaries are part-bursaries
- The bursary can be withdrawn any time if the recipient academic performance did not meet the requirements of the bursary
- Members of Epilepsy South Africa at either Branch or national level.
- Students must meet all the bursary requirements, including the timeous submission of all required documentation.
- Applicants are to submit at least one article on their personal experiences to provide feedback to donors/founders. It should not be longer than one typed page. This article can be published by Epilepsy South Africa.
Bursary Value
This bursary will only fund tuition costs, other expenses like housing and textbooks are not included.
Important information
- Bursaries or awards received from any other sources are required to be declared by students. Students are required to declare bursaries or awards received from any other sources.
- Bursaries are paid in two portions. The first payment quota will be made against the signed Memorandum of Agreement; an account statement from the tertiary institution and confirmation of bursary payment details. The second payment will be made against mid-year results and a progress report. Withdrawal of the bursary with immediate effect will occur if students fail to submit the required documentation before the deadline.
- Bursary payments will be made directly to the student’s account at the registered tertiary institution. Under no circumstances will deposits be made into private bank accounts.
- The Trust must immediately be notified when students for any reason decide to discontinue their studies.
- To ensure sustainability in the Trust, the Trust will keep a database of beneficiaries and expects each beneficiary to financially support the Trust on a regular basis once they complete their studies and take up employment.
- A bursary received from another source by students must be informed to the Trust immediately. Immediate termination of bursary and repayment of all funds (already paid in terms of the bursary) will be strictly executed when students fail to inform the Trust.
- The Annual General Meeting of either the National Office or one of the Branches (depending on convenience) must be attended by students unless the Trust agrees in writing that it is not reasonable to do so (e.g. by virtue of geographic location).

Closing date
The closing date for the bursaries is 31 October annually. Incomplete and late applications will be rejected by the board.
