The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has opened an online application program for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners in 2020, and here is a step-by-step guide to applying for GDE Admissions 2020 online:
GDE Registration process
- Click on the “Register” button to register parent information before making an application
- The pop-up screen will then ask the parent to “Select the form of registration” for South Africans or non-South Africa
- After selecting the South African citizen/ non-South African citizen, “ID Number/Passport” will pop up requesting the parent to enter their ID/Passport Number
- Input the other information requested for and complete the registration.
GDE Login process
To access the main application page, use the login information you provided during registration and follow the steps below.
On the main page you can:
- Use the same login details, if you create your credential in 2005
- If you have forgotten your login details, click on “forget password” to create another one
- You can view or edit your details on the “ My Details” page
- You can register a learner from the “ Register Learner “ page (you cannot make use of the application unless a learner is registered)
- Apply by clicking “Apply For 2020”
GDE Application process
General application process:
- Select a learner
- Select the grade the learner is applying for in 2020
- Input the address (home or work) so the system can pop-up the three closest schools to the address
- Click “Apply” to submit your application
After you have submitted the form, an autogenerated SMS will be sent to the parent phone number to confirm the submission.
Application for a learner with a sibling at a school
If the child has a sibling in a school and you want the child to attend the same school, you can apply to select the school as your choice. Follow the steps below:
- Select a learner
- Select the grade applying for in 2020
- Check the checkbox to select the sibling’s school
- If you cannot find the sibling school, click the “Add Sibling Details” to register sibling information first, then select the sibling’s school
- Click “Apply” to submit your application
- An automated SMS will be sent to the parent’s cell phone number to confirm the submission of the online application
An automatic SMS will be sent to the parent’s cell phone number to validate the online application submission. The department must determine when the learners ‘ placement will begin. Schools will be processing learner placement online during this time.
Parents will be sent an automated SMS which will signal the placement bid. Parents will also receive letters informing them of successful and unsuccessful applications. 7-day will be granted for parents to accept or reject placement offers.
