Private Accommodation Options for UKZN Students

Ukzn postgraduate application

This article contains information on the Private Accommodation Options for UKZN students.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa has filled all of the available student housing for the current academic year. Students who still require housing are directed to private housing service providers listed with the UKZN Private Housing Office.

According to a statement issued by the Student Services Division, all University-owned and leased residences are currently entirely occupied. Those who still need housing are encouraged to apply for private housing from regulated providers.

However, the University has outlined a number of requirements that must be met before petitions for a private residence can be approved. Landlords must first register their rental units with the UKZN Division of Student Residence Affairs before allowing students to live privately (DSRA). Private lodging application forms are only available after registration.

All facilities are inspected by DSRA before they are registered and given permission to house students. Landlords will only make essential communications with DSRA staff. It is essential for students to ensure that landlords follow the registration process because applications cannot be processed until the landlord has registered with DSRA. Verification is done online by the DSRA.

UKZN RESIDENCE  SHAVE REACHED FULL CAPACITY AND THE PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION APPLICATION PROCESS

Dear Staff and Students

Students are advised that university-owned and leased residences have reached full capacity. Students who still require accommodation are referred to private accommodation service providers who are registered with the DSRA private accommodation office on their respective campuses.

Please note the following when applying for private accommodation:

  • All landlords must register their Private Accommodation (PA) facility with DSRA in order for students to be approved for PA.
  • No forms will be approved until the landlord is registered with DSRA.
  • Students are to ensure that landlords follow the process.
  • The verification of forms is done online by DSRA.

Who qualifies for private accommodation?

  • All returning students who were previously residing in a registered private accommodation facility.
  • Returning students who did not get a residence placement will be considered.
  • First-time applicants will be considered as the University administered residences are full.

Applications for private accommodations must be submitted online exclusively, it should be noted. There won’t be any form collection from students by anyone. Before being registered and considered to house students, all facilities are examined by the DSRA. Landlords will only cooperate with the appropriate DSRA representatives.
