Business Studies Admission Requirements

The followings are the admission requirements to study Business Studies:

NC(V): Finance, Economics & Accounting

  • A Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent is the minimum admission requirement for National Certificate (Vocation) for Level 2 on the NQF

N4-N6: Business Management, Management Assistant & Bookkeeping (Level 3), Office Administrator (Level 5)

  • A Grade 12 Certificate is the minimum admission requirement. You may also have to attend an assessment and interview.

N4-N6: Financial Management

  • Applicants must have at least a Senior Certificate with Grade 12 Accounting and you may also have to attend an assessment session to be considered for admission.

N4-N6: Public Management

  • Applicants should possess a Grade 12; or National Senior Certificate (NSC); or National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4. You may also have to attend an assessment and interview.

Junior Bookkeeper: Level 3

  • A Grade 10 (Std 8) or equivalent and applicant’s age must not be less than 16 years.

Senior Bookkeeper: Level 4

  • A successful completion of a previous learning areas (1-4) like the National Certificate i.e Bookkeeping NQF L3. Subjects:
    • Financial Statements (FNST)
    • Cost and Management Accounting (CMGT)

Accounting Technician: Level 3

  • Applicants are expected to have a General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 4 or Grade 12.
  • To be admitted applicants must be competent in communication and mathematics at NQF Level 3.

N4-N6: Human Resource Management

  • Applicants should have Grade 12 Certificate; or National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4

NC(V): Office Administration

  • The minimum admission requirement for the National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2 on the NQF is a Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent.

GETC: Adult Basic Education and Training

  • A Grade 9 certificate
  • Applicants of this qualification should be competent in Communication at ABET Level 3 or equivalent; and Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Assessment and interview might also be conducted for applicants.

NC: Merchandising & NC: Wholesale and Retail: Help Desk

  • A Grade 10 certificate
  • Applicants of this qualification should be competent in Communication at NQF level 1 and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 1.
  • Assessment and interview might also be conducted for applicants.

Engineering Studies

The following are the requirements for False Bay TVET College engineering courses:

National Certificate N1-N3

  • N1: Grade 11 with Maths/ (minimum 50% pass) or Gr 12 with Maths / (Maths Lit 50%)
  • N2: N1 or equivalent
  • N3: N2 or equivalent

N4-N6: Electrical Engineering

  • N3 or equivalent qualification

NC(V): Electrical Infrastructure Construction, NC(V): Motor Mechanics, NC(V): Fitting and Turning, NC(V): Fabrication, NC: Automotive Body Repair L2

  • Applicants of this qualification are required to have a minimum of National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2 on the NQF , a Grade 9 Certificate or NQF Level 1 equivalent.

NC: Automotive Repair and Maintenance NQF L2

  • Applicants must have achieved a General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1 or Grade 12.
  • If applicants did not have the above qualification, learning in preparation for this qualification should include:
    • Literacy and numeracy at NQF Level 1.
    • Basic concepts of engineering science and technology at NQF Level 1.

NC: Automotive Spray Painting L2

  • Applicants must have achieved a General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1 or equivalent.
  • If applicants did not have the above qualification, learning in preparation for this qualification should include:
    • Literacy at NQF Level 1.
    • Numeracy at NQF Level 1.
    • Basic concepts of engineering science at NQF Level 1.

NC: Furniture Making (Wood)

  • A Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent

Competency Based Modular Training

  • Applicants must requirements for practical training is a Grade 12 or minimum N2 Certificate preferably with Maths and Science.

NC: Building and Civil Construction

  • Grade 11 certificate, preference will be given to Grade 12 certificate

NC: Mechanical Fitting, NC: Rigging

  • The Apprentice must be linked to an employer before registering for this course.

NC: Welding Application and Practices

  • Applicants registering for this qualification must have possessed a General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1 or Grade 12.
  • For applicants that does not have the above qualification, learning in preparation for this qualification should include:
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF Level 1.
  • Basic concepts of engineering science and technology at NQF Level 1.

Hospitality & Tourism

Below are the admission requirements for Health and Tourism courses:

NCV: Hospitality

  • Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent is the minimum admission requirement for the National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2 on the NQF.

Hospitality and Catering Services, Tourism

  • A Grade 12 Certificate

NCV: Tourism

  • A Grade 9 certificate, or
  • An NQF Level 1 qualification, or
  • ABET Level 4 certificate, or
  • An appropriate registered equivalent programme obtained at NQF Level 1

Assistant Chef

  • Grade 10

Education Studies

The following are the Education courses admission requirements:

Early Childhood Development: Level 1-5

  • A Grade 9 certificate and working in an ECD environment.

N4-N6: Educare

  • Applicants must possess a Senior Certificate, Grade 12 or NQF level 4 in ECD-at least 40% and English must be one of these subjects
  • Applicants must have NCV level 4 with a minimum of 40% in Maths or maths lit; Minimum of 50% in English and LO and all subjects passed

National Diploma: Early Childhood Development Level 5

  • Applicants of this qualification must have achieved the Higher Education and Training Certificate in ECD at NQF Level 5 (120 credits) and employed in the ECD field.

Yacht & Boat Building

  • Applicants must have a minimum of Grade 9 certificate. Applicants should know that preference will given to matriculants who passed Maths/Maths Lit and English.

Safety in Society

  • Must have Grade 9 certificate
  • Below 25 years of age
  • Must be a South Africa citizen
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Be medically fit
  • Must pass the psychometric tests

2D Animation

  • The minimum admission requirement is a Grade 12 certificate and a portfolio.

Information Technology

Cisco CCNA – Discovery 1 & 2

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. Applicants did not need a prior computing knowledge.

NC(V): Information Technology & Computer Science

  • Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent is the minimum entrance requirement for the National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2 on the NQF.

Higher Certificate: Information Technology Services Management

Applicants with a High School Umalusi Matric:

  • Home Language 50%,
  • Mathematics 40% or
  • Mathematical Literacy 60%,
  • First Additional Language 40%,
  • For high school Umalusi Matric qualification, the above subjects, plus three additional subjects (excluding Life Orientation) should amount to an Academic Point Score of 30.0
  • Applicants must have a pass in English Language

Applicants with a TVET NCV

    • English Language 50%,
    • Mathematics 40% or
    • Mathematical Literacy 60%.
    • For TVET NCV qualification, the subjects above plus four additional subjects (excluding Life Orientation) should amount to an Academic Point Score of 30.0
    • Candidate must pass English

National Certificate: IT Systems Support, NC: End User Computing & NC: Technical Support

  • Applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate
