African Oxygen Limited (Afrox) was established in the year 1927 from the Linde Group, an industrial gases, engineering and technology firm which is the parent company. Afrox made the JSE list in 1963 as well as the Namibian Stock Exchange and is Africa’s market leader in gases and welding products. The company operates in the following African countries; Angola, South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar and Ghana.

About AFROX Bursaries

This bursary is for students who have excellent performance in their academic standings and are ready to pursue studies in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The winners of this bursary are required to do vocation work in Afrox and are to renew the bursary every year.

The bursary is going to be valid for just a year and to be renewed for the next academic session. Renewal of AFROX  for the new year depends on the student performance and vocation work in Afrox. All bursary holders are to do vocation work during June/July and December/January university breaks. Also, they are to create a presentation on the vocation work which will be presented to the Young Talent Development Committee.

Bursary Worth

Bursary holders will be entitled to education fees, books and lodging costs which will include meals and laundry.

Afrox Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

The following are the criteria for the bursary:

  • A disadvantaged background is preferred
  • Excellent academic performance
  • Only students from this field can apply: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Higher Grade Mathematics and Science are required
