Access PhD Scholarship Program 2020/2021
Application is now open for students that wish to apply for the 2020 ACCESS Ph.D. Scholarship. The African Centre for Career Enhancement and Skills Support (ACCESS) is giving out a postgraduate scholarship for Africans to study in Germany.
The African Centre for Career Enhancement & Skills Support (ACCESS) is inviting postgraduate students to apply for its 2020 admission. ACCESS is a consortium of six different African Universities and the University of Leipzig in Germany. The finance of this program is taken care of by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The aim of the program is to look into how African graduates seek and find work, build up careers, develop and test an innovative concept. It also analyses the employability of African graduates and how they seek a promotion at Higher Education Institute (HEIs). The African Centre for Career Enhancement & Skills Support was established to strengthen existing cooperation among the partner universities in Africa and Leipzig University for Sustainable Development.
Employers in Africa has always been claiming that they only seek to give employment to graduate that can think for themselves, learn new things, work with others, take initiatives, integrate into fast-paced work environments and develop a solution to problems. Successful postgraduate applicants will be supported by the program for a maximum of three years before they will be required to produce their PhD thesis. Each PhD candidate will be supervised by at least two academic supervisors: one from his/her home institution and the other from Leipzig University.
The program works in four thematic areas: Capacity building to promote employability at universities, promotion of university economy, employability research in the African context and the already established African German Entrepreneurship Academy.
SCHOLARSHIP WORTH
The successful candidates will receive 1,200 Euros per month.
ACCESS PH.D. SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY
The following criteria are used for the selection:
- Applicants should have a good Master (or equivalent) result that can quality him/her to study doctoral programs at Leipzig University.
- In areas such as History, Politics, Economics, Business Studies, Education, Anthropology, Human Geography, Information Systems, Engineering, etc.;
- Interested in a Ph.D. topic related to the aims of the ACCESS program;
- Must be a citizen of Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, or Tunisia.
ACCESS PHD SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Candidates’ application must include a certified copy of the Master (or equivalent) degree, completed and official certificates, and academic transcripts. All candidates that their academic record was not written in the German Language must include English translation.
- A research proposal, not more than 3,500 words on the field the applicant intends to work on. It should include a brief summary of the proposed project (max. 15 lines); international state of the art of research on the topic; and a work plan to show how the project will be executed within a maximum of three years;
- curriculum vitae;
- Two reference letter from academic staff;
- If the language of instruction at the candidate’s university is not English, evidence of English language proficiency is required (TOEFL 78% or B2 of the European Reference Framework).
The application is open to women and people with challenges. Successful applicants should be ready to reside in Leipzig, take part in a course program and undertake field research in their home country. Applicants will receive a family grants according to DAAD guidelines.
