UNIVERSITY OF THE FREE STATE ADMISSION GUIDELINES AND FORMS
The institution has made it possible for students to apply using different methods; online and paper-based. To apply for the institution admission will have to:
- APPLYÂ for two study options, be finally
- ADMITTEDÂ with your Grade 12 NSC results, and
- REGISTER.
University of the Free State, UFS Undergraduate Application Instruction
To be eligible for UFS admission students must have the following:
- An NSC or NCV that has degree entrance endorsement (bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent qualification.
- Students are to make sure they meet their course minimum requirements.
- A minimum level of 4 (50%) in the chosen UFS language of instruction: English or Afrikaans (only applicable to certain programmes).
- Applicants are to pass certain school subjects with a minimum level of achievement in order to be eligible to take certain university module. For example, you must get a mark of at least 70% for Mathematics in Grade 12 if you plan to study BSc majoring in Physics with Engineering subjects.
Students are to know that meeting the bare minimum requirement of one’s course is not a guarantee for admission. Students are advised to strive hard to have a very high score.

University of the Free State, UFS Online Application Documents
To apply for UFS online, you can visit the online application webpage. You can apply for the admission easily using any device.
To apply for admission you will need some documents before you can be eligible for admission. You are to upload copies of the following in PDF or JPEG format when you apply for undergraduate studies:
- Your ID or passport
- Your parent’s ID or passport if you are below 18 years
- National Senior Certificate, for those that have already matriculated
- Your Grade 11 final results with the school’s stamp
- Your grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp
- Â If you are a current student at another institution of higher learning you will have to upload your academic record.
- USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities, only if you are an international student. Apply to mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption.
