The world-leading streaming entertainments platform, Netflix has organized the Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) for young creative Africans in the Sub-Saharan region, a sum of US$1Million is dedicated towards this scholarship.

This scholarship will provide financial support for students to have access to quality education in the TV-focused entertainment discipline. This is part of Netflix effort to invest in the African creative industry to tell African stories in a unique way and diverse voice.

Netflix has partnered with the social investment fund management and advisory firm Tshikululu Social Investments to implement and administer the project in Southern Africa. This is an opportunity for young African to have access to quality education and want to venture into the creative industry.

Creative Equity Scholarship Fund

The Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) aim is to provide financial support through a full scholarship in partner higher educational institutions (HEI) in South Africa. Below are the CESF partner higher educational institutions (HEI):

  • AACA Film and Acting School
  • AFDA
  • Boston Media House
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
  • City Varsity
  • Durban University of Technology
  • Tshwane University of Technology
  • University of Cape Town
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of the Witwatersrand

Creative Equity Scholarship Fund Benefits

The Creative Equity Scholarship Fund will take care of successful applicant tuition, accommodation, study materials and living expenses at institutions where the beneficiary got admitted to.

Eligibility Requirements

To have access to the Creative Equity Scholarship Fund, applicants must meet some basic requirements. Below are the requirements applicants must meet:

  • The scholarship is open to final year undergraduate students that will complete their degree in 2022, or Postgraduate students pursuing a one-year qualification in 2022
  • Applicants must be willing to study at any of the following higher education institution (HEI):
    • AACA Film and Acting School
    • AFDA
    • Boston Media House
    • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
    • City Varsity
    • Durban University of Technology
    • Tshwane University of Technology
    • University of Cape Town
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of the Witwatersrand
  • It is open to students from the Southern African Development Community that are ready to study in South Africa.
    • Here are the eligible countries: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • Applicants that have a minimum academic average of 60% to date
    • If you are applying for a one-year postgraduate course, you must have completed undergraduate studies between 2019 and 2021
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have been unable to secure meaningful financial aid from other sources (e.g. National Student Financial Aid Scheme)
